Line Up Some Country

Sandie Wyles writes songs about love and heartache and the importance of not going under when life gets tough.

Line Up Some Country

Working with other musicians can be incredibly satisfying when all stars align and the magic happens. I have been incredibly lucky to have enjoyed performing, recording, and creating with many others over the years. In recent years, I have been working closely with Gavin Gourlay and Dave Wilkinson on our album Line Up Some Country — a collection of my songs that have been played in front of live audiences and represent our current collaboration. For me, song writing is a solitary process and I would struggle to co-write but Dave's love of Americana and Country music makes for a great fit. His imaginative guitar accompaniment and harmonies alongside Gavin's creative art work, recording and engineering skills have been essential to bring my songs from the living room to a wider audience. I was asked recently what my favourite song on the album was and to be honest, it changes depending on my mood. I really like The Maggie Clark Medicine Show as it came pretty quickly despite having a lot of words to remember, Long Black Train is my Dad's favourite and I think of him when I sing it. At the moment, I love Line Up Some Country because it captures my love of the old country singers who have been so important to me over the years and yet, it was the song I was least sure would  ever making it beyond my songbook. I am excited to see where our journey will lead us. With Gavin at the wheel, I'm confident more songs will make the leap to being shared with an audience.
