This was an institution for Mabel Meldrum's band members, family and friends. We would all gather in Victoria Park on a specific Sunday in the summer and spend the afternoon playing music and enjoying usually sunny weather. Alongside myself on fiddle/mandolin are our host Andrew MacDonald on concertina, Archie Buchanan on banjo, Ian F. Benzie on guitar and vocals, Dave Smith on percussion and Tony Shearer on whistles and moothie. When Andrew moved to Germany, the band went through quite a few changes and we did go our separate ways for many years. Meeting up with Archie and Ian at the Stonehaven Folk Festival in recent times has meant a lot. This photo brings back happy memories of a time when we were all crazy about the music and loved playing on the local scene and around the north east.
